Brands Start on the Shelf: Our Approach to Packaging Design
Be seen. Be remembered. Be chosen.
A brand has only a few seconds on the shelf. Surrounded by dozens of competing products, packaging needs to communicate who the brand is, what the product offers and why it deserves attention — almost instantly.
Mark Creative Studio is an independent brand and packaging design studio based in Istanbul, working with FMCG, food & beverage and consumer brands across brand identity, packaging design, packaging illustration and creative direction.
For us, packaging is much more than graphic design applied to a product. It is where brand strategy, visual identity, product and communication come together in one of the most tangible expressions of a brand.
Brand Identity Starts Before the Packaging
Strong packaging starts with a strong brand idea. Logo, typography, color, visual language, tone and brand behavior should not exist as separate decisions. Packaging is one of the places where all of these elements meet the consumer directly.
That is why, whether we are building a new brand or repositioning an existing one, we do not treat packaging as an application that comes at the end of the process. We think about brand identity and packaging as one connected system, considering the realities of the shelf from the very beginning.
Packaging Design: Being Seen, Remembered and Chosen
In FMCG and food & beverage categories especially, consumers are faced with a large number of products at the same time. Packaging therefore needs to do more than look good. It needs to make the brand recognizable, communicate the product clearly and create distinctive visual codes that help it stand apart.
Color blocks, typographic hierarchy, product visualization, illustration, logo placement and variant systems are not simply aesthetic choices. They are tools that help people understand and navigate a product within seconds.
We tend to look at packaging through three simple questions: Does it get noticed? Is it remembered? Does it make the choice easier?
FMCG Design Is About Building a System
Designing a single pack is often only the beginning. As a product family grows, new flavors, formats, sizes and sub-categories enter the system. The first design therefore needs to work not only for today, but for what the brand may introduce tomorrow.
This is why we place as much importance on building a scalable packaging system as we do on finding a strong creative idea. Maintaining recognizable brand codes, creating clear differentiation between variants and making the entire range feel like one family are all part of that system.
Packaging Illustration: Building a World That Belongs to the Brand
For us, illustration is not simply decoration added to packaging. When used with purpose, it can give a brand a distinctive visual world that competitors cannot easily own.
Characters, product stories, ingredient worlds and custom illustration systems can become distinctive brand assets that extend beyond the pack — into social content, campaigns, motion and other brand experiences.
We therefore approach packaging illustration not as an isolated discipline, but as a natural extension of brand identity and the wider packaging system.
Creative Direction: From Packaging to the Brand World
Strong packaging can lose some of its impact when the rest of the brand communicates in a completely different visual language.
Packaging, product visualization, photography, illustration, motion and digital content become more powerful when they are connected by the same creative idea. This allows a brand to remain recognizable across different touchpoints without becoming repetitive.
Depending on the project, our role can therefore extend beyond a single design output to shaping the broader creative direction of the brand.
Designing from Istanbul, Working Across Brands and Categories
Mark Creative Studio is an independent brand and packaging design studio based in Istanbul, Türkiye.
We work with brands across new brand creation, repositioning, product launches, packaging families and the evolution of existing visual systems.
Every project begins with a different challenge, but our approach remains consistent: understand the real problem, find the clearest idea and turn that idea into a distinctive visual system that works in the real world.
Selected Packaging Design Projects
For Biscolata Ice & Fire, developed for Şölen, we translated the product's entry into the chilled category through a strong hot-and-cold contrast while maintaining the recognizable visual language of Biscolata.
In Biscolata Mood Manifest and Biscolata Stix Manifest, we brought a seasonal Manifest concept into the existing brand worlds of two established products, creating limited-edition packaging designed to feel both new and familiar.

Good Packaging Should Do More Than Look Good
For us, good packaging design creates a balance between immediate shelf impact and long-term brand memory. It communicates the product, makes the brand recognizable and gradually builds a visual world that people can identify with it.
That is why we design not only for the pack that exists today, but for the brand it may become tomorrow.
Designed to be seen. Created to be remembered.
